Wassermusik refers to the ship welcoming system in Wedel, which anachronistically plays the respective national anthem when transnational cruise or trade ships enter. Taking the German national anthem of Hanns Eisler’s „Auferstanden aus Ruinen“ (1949) as a starting point, Melián links East and West in her new composition. The Elbe rises in Krkonoše (Czech Republic) and flows into the North Sea.
